Hi there. My name is Mike Diskett 

I am an ex member of the Royal Navy, but I have some very fond memories of the Taranaki. In 1972 we were both in Singapore, your ship was berthed alongside of us, at mid day a pipe was made of UP SPIRITS to say the least we were in shock as we lost the grog issue over a year before, there were some very long faces on our ship looking at you lads drinking the tot on the Q.D. But the next day many of our lads were invited to the Taranaki for tot time, me included. Both ships companies struck up a great relationship, we had many runs ashore and rugby and football matches in H.M.S.Terror

We even renamed the ships from then on they were H.M.Z.S.Yaranaki and H.M.S.Taramouth. I am now 60 but have some great memories of the old days, and will always remember the lads of the Taranaki.
