The following was received from Mike Smith

I have a contact, now living in Australia,who has just received a letter from Defence Medals to say that he does not qualify for ANY of the following medals
 
NZ Operational Service
CSM 62 with bar Borneo
NZ GSM with bar Malaya 1960-64
 
You may say that a refusal is not unusual but the interesting thing about it is that from the same medals office he has been awarded the PJM, which arrived in the post at his end a month ago.
 
So here he is a person that can wear a PJM and nothing else, and look like a complete idiot on ANZAC Day
 
This person was an ex member of the crew of Taranaki when it was in asia from May 62 - Mar 63.  He accumulated the requisite 30 days for the PJM but seemingly does not pass the 7 days for the OSM
