News Letter 24 February 07

Greetings all,

The 2007 reunion is up and running. This is to let you know what your reunion committee has been doing to date. The committee this year is Ron Sheehan: Chairperson, Lynda Gage: member, Alan Woolston: Secretary.

After a somewhat indifferent start, lack of volunteers to form a committee and many enquiries from ex-Ship’s Company, we approached the Birkenhead RSA to host this year’s reunion. They were delighted to welcome Taranaki back and we were equally delighted to accept.

Following the very positive feedback we received from the 2005 reunion we have decided to follow (with one or two amendments) the same format. Thus we have been toiling away on the 100 & 1 things that need to be done.

If there is anyone who wishes to offer his/her voluntary services immediately prior to or during the reunion, please contact Ron Sheehan at HMNZS Philomel, Private Bag 32901, Devonport, North Shore City; or by emailing him at: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

The website proved popular last time and it is intended that regular information will be posted there.

Mail registrations will close on 21st September 2007. After that date, door registrations will be available but be aware that you may not be able to enjoy the banquet or similar activities. We need to close the registrations at the above date to give the caterers and other service providers a fair go.

A registration form and draft programme is attached. The committee appreciate that there are some who do not have email. If you know of anyone who needs the information, please print it off and send it to them. Also, as the Secretary, I would appreciate any updated email/mailing addresses. On the subject of registrations only sailors need register and pay the registration fee. Do not send registration fees for partners or those who are accompanying you.

The maximum number that may be accommodated at the Saturday banquet is 60. So do not miss out. It is planned that an “on demand” transport service will operate as last time. We will keep you informed of our progress.

We have approached the Birkenhead RSA to allow all who officially register for the reunion to be granted temporary members for the duration. It does not appear that there will be any difficulty in being granted this.

Many of you expressed interest in “T” shirt and other memorabilia. These will be available for purchase. Outside our control are the prices charged by the manufacturers, but we will do our best to keep costs down as far as possible. When details become available we will let you know.

To help those of you who require accommodation, I have attached a list. The reunion committee do not endorse, nor have any deals arranged with any of the motels mentioned.

Until next time - Cheers
