News Letter 10 June 07

Greetings all,

Planning for the 2007 reunion is well under way.

To date only 20 people have registered.  With only about three months to go, this does not bode well for a viable reunion. The committee appreciate that there is much going on this year navy–wise.  However, we are beginning to wonder whether all our efforts for Taranaki have been in vain. Given that a reunion is not only a sentimentally joyous occasion, it is also a commercial undertaking.  With the paltry number of registrations we have received, the reunion is currently not an economic reality.

Behind the scenes of any reunion there is a huge amount of work done.  To date (with the exception of transport and memorabilia) all our arrangements have been finalised.  It is expected that by next month the outstanding items will be completed and everything will be organised.  Please do not let all that work go to waste due to procrastination.  Register and encourage your mates to do the same.  To help you, a registration and draft programme form is attached. Extra copies of the form may be accessed at http://www.hmnzstaranaki.org/content/view/67/49/ only sailors need register and pay the registration fee.  Do not send registration fees for partners or those who are accompanying you.

Mail registrations will close on 21st September 2007. But given the current response, on 1st August 2007 the committee will review the number of registrations received and decide whether to continue with the reunion or not.  We have set this date in order that those from overseas may cancel their airline bookings without penalty.

In the last newsletter I made an error by stating that the maximum number that may be accommodated at the Saturday banquet is 60.   It should read 60 couples.

Until next time - Cheers

None can be “Taranaki” but us.  The ship is gone. Only we remain to perpetuate her memory.
